former professional ballet dancer, then teacher, now photographer
- I am passionate about finding the artistry of every dancer no matter how young. Once a child who loves to move, feels comfortable and begins to dance, so many expressions, thoughts, and ideas come flooding forward.
- My goal is to work with a young dancer to pinpoint their current strengths and photograph that movement. I will capture a few technically appropriate posed images but I generally emphasize capturing the movement, artistry, and personality of the dancer.
- Your photo package will include full body poses, jumps and turns, close up movement and artistic expression, and a few portraits to choose from.
- I will work with the dancer to provide images they are happy with. Dancers are very critical of their pictures. Period. They work hard toward technical perfection and an image that is less than their ideal is not ok.
- I will give the dancer technical corrections (as any teacher would) and show the dancer (very young children not included) the images I am capturing so that they can feel confident in their performance and/or make any adjustments they know they can.
- Young children will be encouraged to “just dance.” Depending on their age, we may get a couple of poses but they are usually filled with more “artistic expression” than technique. This is as it should be at this stage.
At all stages of technical ability, there is light, expression, beauty, purpose, and creativity to be drawn out and captured.
My Promise to Your Family
Contact me and ask any questions you may have. Location, time of day, what to wear, and length of photo shoot vary depending on time of year, availability, your preference, size of group (one dancer, siblings, family session).
I will work with you through all the details to provide you with a positive experience. We will have fun!
Thorough Knowledge of Technique
I will deliver photos with proper technique for the dancer’s level. For example, a first year pointe student may need something to hold onto to get a proper photo on pointe. I can easily recognize, encourage, and adapt to the dancer’s level.
Full Color and Black and White
I will initially edit images in color but at times I feel a black and white version captures something special so I will provide that as well. If you have a favorite photo I have only given you in color but you would like to see in black and white, just ask!
Contract and Fee
I will provide a written contract and photo release. I charge $300 per session which includes the session time, edit time, and rights to print and share all of your images. You will receive a minimum of 12 images to choose from.
High Resolution Digital Delivery
I will send a digital link which includes High Resolution jpeg images. If you work with a printer who needs a different file type, just let me know. Your images will be yours to print and share. If you would like an image cropped in a different aspect ratio, I will provide that as well.
Image Guarantee
I promise to take time to make each dancer/family comfortable, work with every personality, and try and try again to get the amazing shots I know we can get. Every shoot is different due to light, temperature, and location, but I will take the time to work with each individual in every setting to get personal and unique images.
